FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a carbon footprint?

A carbon footprint is the total sum of greenhouse gas emissions (expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent – CO2e) released into the atmosphere as a result of activities, production of products, services, or processes by a given entity. The carbon footprint shows the impact of an entity's activities on climate change, as greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, are the main factors contributing to the rise in Earth's temperature.

What is the carbon footprint of an organization?

The carbon footprint of an organization is a measure of the amount of greenhouse gases emitted as a result of activities related to its operation (e.g., production processes, transport, or energy consumption). NEOGAGE Carbon Footprint is a solution that supports reliable emission reporting for your organization, facilitates carbon footprint management, and helps achieve emission reduction goals, directly generating benefits for your organization.

What is the product carbon footprint?

The product carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases emitted throughout the entire life cycle of a given product or during specific phases. It is estimated depending on the chosen approach (cradle-to-gate or cradle-to-grave).

What is an EPD - Type III Environmental Product Declaration?

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Type III is a standardized document that presents the environmental impact of a given product throughout its entire life cycle. The EPD is based on a life cycle assessment (LCA) and complies with international standards such as ISO 14025 and EN 15804 (for construction products). The product environmental declaration is verified and registered by independent bodies, ensuring the credibility of the information contained therein.

What are the benefits of calculating the carbon footprint?

Green check icon

Regulatory compliance: calculating the carbon footprint is the only way to adapt to applicable standards (GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and ISO 14067). Early response to new legal regulations allows the company to prepare properly and avoid potential legal or financial risks.

Green check icon

Company competitiveness: calculating and managing the carbon footprint in an organization increases the company's attractiveness in the eyes of customers/partners and strengthens its market position. More and more often, customers are willing to pay more for eco-friendly products and choose service providers whose actions aim for sustainable development.

Green check icon

Process optimization: monitoring greenhouse gas emissions in a dedicated system allows for faster identification of areas where changes can be made, which in turn leads to reduced energy consumption and lower emissions.

Green check icon

Environmental awareness: managing the carbon footprint is an ideal way to raise environmental awareness not only among organizations but also among consumers. This, in turn, leads to a better understanding of society's impact on the environment and efforts to make our lifestyle more climate-friendly.

What is the CSRD Directive and who does it apply to?

On January 5, 2023, new European Union regulations on sustainability reporting came into force. The changes introduced by the so-called CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) aim to standardize the reporting of information related to sustainable development and increase the comparability of data contained in reports.

Obligations related to sustainability reporting will be introduced gradually. The implementation deadlines depend on the category (size) of entities:

Green check icon

From January 1, 2024: large public interest companies employing more than 500 people and covered by the NFRD directive. The deadline for submitting reports is set for 2025.

Green check icon

From January 1, 2025: large enterprises that were not previously subject to the NFRD directive but employ more than 250 people and/or have turnover exceeding EUR 40 million and/or a balance sheet total above EUR 20 million, will have to submit reports in 2026.

Green check icon

From January 1, 2026: small and medium-sized entities listed on regulated markets and employing more than 10 people and having turnover above EUR 700,000. The deadline for submitting reports is set for 2027, but these entities will have the option to delay reporting until 2028.

What do Scope 1, 2, and 3 of the carbon footprint include?

Green check icon

Scope 1 - Includes direct greenhouse gas emissions resulting from fuel combustion in stationary sources, e.g., burning fossil fuels in company installations, emissions from production processes, or from the company's vehicle fleet.

Green check icon

Scope 2 - Includes indirect greenhouse gas emissions related to the production and delivery of purchased electricity, heat, or steam by another company, e.g., emissions from the production of electricity purchased from an external supplier, emissions from purchased hot water or steam.

Green check icon

Scope 3 - Includes all other indirect greenhouse gas emissions not included in Scope 1 and 2. It covers both direct and indirect emissions resulting from external activities related to the organization's operations, e.g., emissions from employee or customer transport, emissions from the supply of raw materials and services, emissions from the disposal of production waste.

What does TÜV Nord certification for NEOGAGE Carbon Footprint cover?

TÜV Nord certification confirms that our application meets the highest standards in carbon footprint calculation, i.e.

Green check icon

PN-EN ISO 14064-1:2019-04 – entire standard

Green check icon

GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard – entire standard

Green check icon

PN-EN ISO 14067:2018-10 – entire standard

The certificate is available at https://cert.tuv-nord.pl/index.php?cn=122524 or for download here.

Who is the NEOGAGE Carbon Footprint application intended for?

NEOGAGE Carbon Footprint is a tool aimed at people responsible for reporting and managing the carbon footprint of organizations and products. It is undoubtedly a key element in striving for sustainable development, helping to understand how our actions affect the climate and environment. In addition, the obligation to report non-financial data will gradually be imposed on business entities in accordance with the new EU CSRD directive (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive).

Are my data safe in the web application?

Yes, the security of user data is our priority. The application uses appropriate data transmission security protocols (session tokens and HTTPS protocol), and data are stored in accordance with applicable data protection regulations, including personal data protection and trade secrets.

Additionally, the client can choose to install the application on their own infrastructure, which means that the entered data does not leave their premises, which can be an important element of data security and distinguishes our product from competitors offering only cloud solutions.

What is the difference between a subscription and a license? Which should I choose?

The difference between a subscription and a perpetual license concerns the payment model and the period of access to the product.

A subscription is valid for a specified period, usually for a year or multiples of a year. After this period, the user must renew the subscription to continue using the product. Payment is made regularly, and as part of the subscription, users have access to the latest application updates and technical support.

A perpetual license gives the user the right to use the application indefinitely, with no need for regular renewal. Unlike a subscription, the fee for the right to use the application is one-time. The cost of purchasing a perpetual license does not include updates or technical support.

Can I count on expert support from consultants in the field of carbon footprint?

Our experts are committed to providing comprehensive assistance and support to all users of the NEOGAGE Carbon Footprint application. We offer not only help in getting acquainted with the application interface and its functionalities but also extensive substantive knowledge regarding greenhouse gas emission measurement methodologies.
